NEW GROUP

Meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, from 2pm to 4pm, at John’s house in Malvern Wells

The aim is to look closely at a range of poetry and prose from the literature of the past – anything from Beowulf to The Waste Land, with choices determined by the Group.  Those who have hardly looked at literature since school but would like another go will be as welcome as those with prior knowledge. The point is to go beyond appreciation to interpretation: to consider what range of meaning a text has, how some knowledge of its context may help us understand it, and how understanding it can help us to know more about the culture that produced it.  Literature is a rehearsal for life.
